Senior Product Manager, Recommendations
Job Description
Hinge is expanding its product team in New York with an on-site Senior Product Manager for Recommendations. This role focuses on owning end-to-end improvements to the recommendations engine, partnering with data science, ML, engineering, design, and research to boost personalization, ranking, and fairness for millions of daters.
Responsibilities
- Own core recommendations improvements end to end, moving an area from problem framing to shipped results and driving key user and business metrics.
- Make the algorithm feel personal by collaborating with data science and ML teams to refine ranking and personalization, including inputs, ranking logic, and the user experience.
- Turn ambiguity into a concrete roadmap by prioritizing what matters most, sequencing work, evaluating tradeoffs, and keeping partners aligned as priorities evolve.
- Decide with evidence, using experiments, behavioral data, and research to guide decisions when signals are imperfect.
- Bring people along by communicating plans and results clearly to engineers in standups and to leaders in reviews.
- Protect trust by ensuring recommendations are fair, safe, and aligned with Hinge's values, since they influence who gets seen.
Requirements
- 4+ years of product management experience, ideally in personalization, recommendations, ranking, or other ML-powered consumer products.
- A track record of owning a product area end to end and driving measurable improvements to core user outcomes at scale.
- Comfort partnering closely with data science, ML, and engineering — technically fluent enough to shape direction on model inputs, ranking, and tradeoffs without needing to be deeply technical.
- Strong communication skills, especially translating complex ideas for non-technical audiences.
- Comfort with ambiguity and making principled calls in high-impact spaces.
- Experience with products that match people or content (dating, marketplaces, social feeds, or hiring).
- Curiosity about dating and the human side of product development, and an interest in the fairness, ethics, and inclusivity of algorithmic systems.
- A point of view on how AI tools can raise the quality and speed of product work.
Benefits
- 401(k) Matching: We match 100% of the first 10% of pre-tax 401(k) contributions you make, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year.
- Professional Growth: Annual Learning & Development stipend after three months, plus free access to Udemy starting day one.
- Parental Leave & Planning: 100% paid parental leave (20 paid weeks for both birth and non-birth parents).
- Fertility Support: Access to fertility care through Carrot, including a stipend for fertility preservation, with eligibility for you and your partner.
- Date Stipend: A $100 monthly stipend for dates, with Hinge Premium free for employees and their loved ones.
- ERGs: Eight Employee Resource Groups that host events and provide dedicated support to the organization and its communities.
About the role
Every match on Hinge starts with a decision from our recommender: who should we show you today. When done well, the app feels like it gets you; when done poorly, it feels random. This role owns that decision for millions of daters.
As the Senior Product Manager for Recommendations, you will tackle challenges such as welcoming new users, ensuring equitable recommendations for all, and helping people explore as they figure things out. This is hands-on work at the intersection of machine learning and human connection, built shoulder to shoulder with data science, ML, engineering, design, and research.
