Job Description

Arch Capital Group Ltd. seeks a Senior Product Owner to join its Raleigh, NC hybrid team. In this role, you represent the voice of the customer within Agile squads, guiding digital transformation and shaping product development to deliver measurable business outcomes. You will oversee multiple roadmaps, manage stakeholder relationships, and partner with other Product Owners to keep backlog strategy and delivery aligned with goals and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain multiple product backlogs, prioritizing items to align with the product vision and strategic objectives while adapting to evolving business needs.
  • Ensure backlog content includes user stories, enablers, and defects with work ready for the development team.
  • Accept stories that meet defined standards, complete acceptance testing, and comply with the definition of done to ensure quality.
  • Support architectural runway through backlog planning and collaboration with architecture and engineering teams.
  • Coach other Product Owners on backlog management and clarity of requirements.
  • Craft clear, concise user stories that reflect business needs and fit the product strategy, providing direction for development.
  • Decompose larger stories into smaller parts, clarify details, and ensure usability for delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with the product management team to focus teams on high-value work informed by business needs, strategy, and user feedback.
  • Maintain backlog alignment with the product vision and delivery roadmap, addressing solutions and delivery expectations.
  • Rank backlog items and determine sequencing based on value and strategic priority.
  • Provide coaching to Product Owners and serve as a bridge between product management and delivery teams.
  • Facilitate collaboration among development, design, and other stakeholders to advance work.
  • Work with domain product managers and the development team to define sprint goals, select user stories, and plan sprints aligned with capacity and priorities.
  • Communicate the vision during planning to prepare teams for execution.
  • Define explicit acceptance criteria for each user story to ensure quality and delivery expectations are met.
  • Plan and coordinate product releases in line with the domain’s delivery strategy.
  • Foster ongoing dialogue to resolve questions, manage dependencies, and surface priorities as stories are implemented.
  • Collaborate with product managers to keep the team focused on the highest-value work based on needs, strategy, and feedback.
  • Monitor backlog to ensure it reflects the vision and delivery roadmap and meets delivery expectations.
  • Track key product metrics to measure success and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • regularly verify progress against acceptance criteria and quality standards, including the definition of done and nonfunctional requirements, and collaborate to resolve quality issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner and/or SAFe POPM certification strongly preferred.
  • 8–10 years of experience in insurance as a Product Owner working with IT development teams in Agile delivery and SDLC using Scrum/SAFe frameworks or related roles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and present complex information to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven experience managing multiple products in the development of large-scale commercial and specialty systems (e.g., DuckCreek, Guidewire, Unqork, UW Platforms, Submission & Clearance Systems, Extraction or AI-driven platforms) and delivering measurable business value.
  • Ability to lead multiple Agile teams (development, QA, design) and collaborate with business partners to achieve product goals.
  • Experience building productive relationships across the organization and advocating for user needs within the product strategy.
  • Strong technical and business acumen to translate outcomes into actionable user stories for diverse development teams.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and service-oriented mindset; self-starter with adaptability.
  • Proven ability to balance progress across multiple domain deliverables and development teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile frameworks such as Scrum and SAFe, and tools like JIRA, Confluence, MIRO, and related product management tooling.
  • Deep understanding of the commercial and specialty insurance product lifecycle.

Job Summary

The Senior Product Owner serves as the customer advocate within the Agile development team, supporting the optimization of business outcomes and shaping the product development process for digital transformation efforts. This role owns multiple delivery roadmaps, manages stakeholder relationships, and maintains product strategy within the backlog to drive rapid results. Working closely with Product Owners and providing coaching, the role ensures correct scope translation into user stories and acts as a primary liaison among product management, business stakeholders, and the Agile team to ensure sprint deliverables align with user needs in an agile framework. This is a highly technical PO position requiring strong system fluency to understand integrations, workflows, and IT concepts and translate them into business outcomes while collaborating with engineering. The role operates within Arch Insurance IT in the Middle Market Commercial and Entertainment sector.
