Staff Product Manager, Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Job Description
Based in Waltham, MA with hybrid work options, this role leads the strategy, roadmap, and cross-functional execution to automate manufacturability review across geographies, including an Intelligent DFM Workbench powered by AI.
Responsibilities
- Vision and strategy: Define and advance a multi-year DFM roadmap across the organization, establishing a single global workbench that supports both staff and AI reviewers to speed the custom parts production lifecycle. Near-term priorities focus on routing orders to the appropriate DFM engineer, with expansion planned into an AI-driven workbench.
- Own the Intelligent DFM Workbench: Lead the product that maintains the single source of truth for what each order requires to be built correctly, read and edited by internal staff, and viewed by Buyers and Partners through role-specific interfaces.
- Collaboration with data science and ML engineering: Partner with data science and ML teams to enhance manufacturability models, including 3D geometry analysis and evaluation of visual/3D language models for part understanding; establish champion/challenger and golden-dataset feedback loops to improve record accuracy with every workbench review.
- Drive measurable outcomes: Define and monitor key metrics such as DFM handle time, sign-off latency, the gap between contractual promises and pre-start capture, RMA rate, and regional rework, using them to prioritize the roadmap.
- Cross-functional leadership: Serve as the hub among Engineering, Data Science, UX, Sourcing, Pricing, Order Systems, Quality, and DFM engineers and case managers, and present strategy, trade-offs, and ROI to executive leadership.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product management experience, including leadership of AI/ML-powered or technical products in B2B, marketplace, or manufacturing/engineering environments.
- Experience owning a system of record or complex data contracts used by multiple downstream systems and roles, with human-in-the-loop workflows built around it.
- Experience designing policy-driven workflows such as approval routing, tiered sign-off, and escalation logic, rather than single-user tools.
- Comfort operating across regions and stakeholder groups to uphold a single global design standard under pressure to customize.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to distill technical and operational complexity into clear narratives for engineers and executives.
- Rigorous, data-driven approach to prioritization, experimentation, and measuring impact on cycle time, quality, and customer/partner satisfaction.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and DFM principles (CNC machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, injection molding) is advantageous; comfort evaluating geometry-based feasibility rules is required.
- Track record partnering with data science and ML engineering teams to deploy models into production; experience with computer vision, 3D/geometric analysis, or applied LLM/VLM is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; an MBA or MS is a plus.
