Job Description

The Staff Product Manager, Underscored, role is part of CNN’s New Business division at Warner Bros. Discovery. You will own the end-to-end user journey for CNN Underscored, guiding the next iteration of digital shopping guidance and how users move from initial needs to repeat value.

Location

New York, NY (onsite)

Compensation

USD 133,000 - 247,000 per year

Role Summary

In this role, you will lead the holistic experience for Underscored and shape its evolution. As part of CNN’s New Business division, you will help expand beyond traditional news by defining and delivering improvements that make shopping guidance more useful, intentional, and trusted.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end user journey: Lead the user lifecycle and every stage of the Underscored experience to ensure the journey feels seamless, intentional, and valuable.
  • Invest in customer understanding: Investigate user segments, shopping habits, and relevant alternatives. Run ongoing qualitative and quantitative research to identify friction and create solutions aligned to how users think and decide.
  • Connect strategy to execution: Collaborate with Design, UX Research, Engineering, and Editorial to translate customer insights into product hypotheses, wireframes, and scalable solutions, including areas with high complexity and ambiguity.
  • Drive outcomes for both users and the business: Define performance metrics that balance business goals with real user utility, building products people trust and return to.
  • Stay hands-on: Produce product briefs, user stories, and supporting documentation to drive alignment, and help run team ceremonies to keep delivery on track.
  • Bring the next evolution to market: Lead execution of an MVP and iterate it based on user and business needs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of consumer-facing product management experience, including leading complex, ambiguous customer problems in shopping, commerce, decision-making, or loyalty.
  • Full lifecycle ownership experience, covering discovery, strategy, UX, launch, and iteration for a product or major business line, rather than managing isolated features.
  • User research and JTBD expertise: Demonstrated depth in research, persona development, and Jobs-to-be-Done frameworks, with the ability to clearly explain users and behavior backed by concrete evidence.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: Ability to thrive in zero-to-one or rapid evolution environments, including tech scale-ups, agile media platforms, or dedicated product pods where cross-functional leadership matters.
  • Strong communication and collaboration: Proven ability to partner effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Editorial partnership experience and curiosity about content, formats, and story-telling.
  • Strategic product thinking: A balance of user needs and business goals, with comfort in ambiguity and new product spaces.

Benefits

  • Health insurance coverage
  • Employee wellness program
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Retirement savings plan
  • Paid holidays
  • Sick time
  • Vacation
