UX Research & Insights Manager
Job Description
Lead OIT’s UX research and assessment work at the University of Colorado Boulder, where your insights will directly shape how campus technology services are delivered. This onsite role in Boulder, Colorado lets you establish research processes, define success metrics, and translate user needs into improved OIT services and projects.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of User Experience & Information Design and supervises UX student employees and a temporary UX researcher.
What you’ll do
- Partner with OIT service managers, the Program Manager for IT Service Management, and OIT leadership to establish, track, and refine KPIs, Objectives and Key Results, and other metrics that support continuous improvement of high-quality services and experiences for campus.
- Lead UX research for OIT Portfolio Management Office projects.
- Create and improve UX team practices across project intake, resourcing, scoping, communication, and collaboration.
- When applicable, define success metrics to track project progress, user satisfaction, and impact.
- Develop and iterate processes to capture, analyze, and report on UX and other service data (for example, customer feedback) to identify and resolve gaps in service, processes, and communication, and to understand customer demand and needs.
- Support Organizational Change Management (OCM) initiatives for user-impacting services and projects by collaborating with OIT OCM staff, User Engagement, Business Analysis, and Project Management specialists to optimize the end user experience.
- Act as a strategic partner for student success and other academic initiatives by leading UX research engagement and translating findings into actionable outcomes.
- Build a flexible, collaborative framework grounded in research standards, and maintain proficiency with standard UX research processes, tools, and technologies.
- Oversee the UX team’s research artifacts by creating and maintaining a research repository, including processes for data storage and data cleanup or deletion.
- Use CU and OIT enterprise technologies for UX research when possible, and recommend tool improvements to the Assistant Director of UX when gaps are identified.
- Be responsible for the UX research arm’s service metrics, including creating and tracking UX service metrics with the UX team.
- Contribute to professional development through identification of growth areas and recommending or creating learning and mentorship opportunities.
- Advocate for digital accessibility by staying current on accessibility standards and partnering with CU’s Digital Accessibility team to research and define new standards when needed.

How success is measured
Success is driven by your ability to establish research processes and KPIs, translate insights into improved services and projects, and supervise the UX research arm’s data, artifacts, and metrics. Supervision includes selecting, training, managing, empowering, developing, and mentoring staff and student employees, setting and holding teams accountable to objectives and key results, and performing day-to-day supervisory activities such as leave approval and work prioritization.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience from an accredited institution in a computer science related field.
- 3+ years in UX research or user-centered research, including designing research studies, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, visualizing research findings to communicate user needs and goals, and using findings to recommend and improve UX.
- Experience supervising a student or temp employee (or similar).
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience with advanced Qualtrics features, including survey logic, distribution through contact lists, and the reporting tool.
