Principal Product Manager, Hardware
Job Description
Vivint Smart Home is seeking a Principal Product Manager for Hardware to lead cross-functional efforts that blend hardware development with software platforms. Based in Washington State on a hybrid model, this role owns a 1–2 year roadmap and steers end-to-end delivery to elevate the Vivint Home experience through integrated hardware and digital experiences. The position offers a salary range of USD 185,000 to 240,000 per year and requires a strong technical background with at least four years of product management experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop deep, action-oriented understanding of how customers use specific product features and hardware components in daily life, enabling targeted empathy.
- Apply telemetry, logs, and user data to measure feature adoption, diagnose friction, and identify operational gaps in your domain.
- Continuously refine existing hardware capabilities and software touchpoints using behavioral insights to boost reliability and responsiveness.
- Define and drive a tactical 12 to 24 month roadmap, translating strategy into clear, executable feature requirements.
- Serve as the product bridge between hardware development and digital app teams using detailed PRDs and managing the lifecycle from prototype validation through launch.
- Align software and hardware efforts with Vivint’s design language and platform architecture to prevent siloed development.
- Craft precise technical documents, feature specs, and business briefs that translate user pain points into actionable engineering requirements.
- Establish localized dashboards and success metrics to monitor feature health, availability, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead day-to-day delivery by partnering with engineering squads, UX designers, QA teams, and data analysts to maintain velocity.
- Maintain clear alignment across cross-functional peers, manage technical dependencies, and escalate core trade-offs or risks to senior leadership.
- Independently translate broad goals into structured execution paths, sustaining delivery even as technical constraints evolve.
- Demonstrate analytical rigor by using data analytics tools to assess product health, analyze user behavior, and justify prioritization with metrics.
- Apply a solid understanding of software lifecycles, API interactions, and hardware or firmware concerns to build connected IoT consumer experiences.
- Translate complex technical requirements or performance data into concise, scannable updates for engineering peers and leadership.
- Bring 4–6+ years of technical product management experience shipping consumer software features, IoT solutions, or connected hardware.
- Leverage product analytics tools or collaborate with data engineering to track, verify, and improve user experiences.
- Preferred education includes a B.S. or M.S. in a technical field; equivalent practical PM experience will be considered.
