Product Cost Engineer
Job Description
The Product Cost Engineer role at Meta Reality Labs Product Operations centers on safeguarding the product’s financial health from ideation through end of life. The role collaborates with Operations, Engineering, Product Management, Sourcing, Finance, and Contract Manufacturing to drive cost targets and maintain supply chain continuity, on a site-based basis in Sunnyvale, CA.
Responsibilities
- Enable cross functional teams to monitor and report Total Cost per Unit, covering materials, capital expenditures, Manufacturing Value Add, warranty, freight, and other cost components.
- Develop cost models to inform cost targets and product category boundary decisions.
- Leverage cost models to shape supply chain and scalability strategies.
- Apply technical expertise to guide engineering and the supply chain teams in meeting program cost targets at product and commodity levels.
- Engage hardware teams at a technical level to identify and drive cost reduction opportunities.
- Track program actual costs against targets, identify deltas, and implement corrective actions to bring costs back on track.
- Outline, report, and track all risks and opportunities related to product cost, driving closure.
- Lead cross-functional cost reviews to compare actual versus target costs and surface risks and opportunities.
- Participate in cross-functional reviews to understand cost implications of operational, engineering, and process changes.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Engineering to align on Supplier Plan of Record to ensure low cost and stable supply.
- Promote best practices for cost management across different teams and functions.
- Contribute to scalable processes by documenting and sharing organizational best practices.
Requirements
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Operations Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- 5+ years of experience in product cost management roles for hardware technology products.
- Strong knowledge of Operations and Supply Chain with proven communication skills.
- Experience adapting to diverse communication styles and balancing non-cost variables.
- Proven ability to apply analytical and problem solving approaches to cost or supply chain challenges and to communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
