Product Design Director, Concierge Products

Capital One is hiring a Product Design Director to lead the Concierge Products team within Experience Design, shaping the Velocity Black experience and related concierge and back-end agent experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead a cross-disciplinary team of designers and collaborate closely with research teams and Product and Tech leadership
• Drive high-impact, highly complex initiatives by defining and executing design strategy aligned to organizational vision and business objectives
• Use established product design leadership expertise to raise the quality and maturity of Capital One’s design practice
• Oversee and optimize the use of design tools, platforms, frameworks, and design systems; enable creation of artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes
• Build conditions for a positive, inclusive team environment, including an inclusive and collaborative culture where team members feel valued and heard
• Champion customer and partner perspectives, modeling that business and customer outcomes reinforce one another to exceed baseline needs and expectations
• Apply expert knowledge of products, processes, customers, competitors, and market trends to shape how Design engages and solves business challenges
• Share insights on technical advances and data capabilities that could influence outcomes, helping larger teams navigate constraints while enabling bold technological solutions and efficient data destinations
• Connect work across teams, portfolios, platforms, and lines of business to create more coherent experiences, accelerate delivery, and increase design value
• Present work across levels and job functions using a strategic human-centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data, and research insights
• Partner with craft leads and cross-functional teams to expand creative boundaries while maintaining business impact and customer value

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in a product design role
• 3+ years leading design teams
• Experience in a design toolkit that spans product design, service design, design strategy, and content design
• Experience leading product design teams across UX and UI, strategy, content, and research from strategy through delivery to market
• Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing, and analytics leaders across multiple business lines to shape strategy, OKRs, roadmaps, and operating models
• Experience working within a design system
• Proficiency with web and mobile technologies and platforms, including navigating technology considerations and constraints
• Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma
• Experience managing an interdisciplinary design team
• Proficiency in business case development to connect product and UX decisions to business value
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building across complex organizations
• Exceptional people management and development skills

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in a product design role
• 5+ years of experience leading design teams

Compensation and Incentives

• New York, NY (onsite): $251,400 - $286,900 per year
• McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Director, Design
• Richmond, VA: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Design
• Location-based pay ranges apply; the actual annualized salary offered will be reflected in the offer letter
• Eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI); incentives may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan
