Job Description

Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is seeking a Product Manager for Academic Products who will own the vision and drive the end-to-end lifecycle of solutions that meet student and institution needs. This hybrid role in Florham Park, NJ offers a salary range of USD 110,000 to 115,000 per year and requires a minimum of three years in product management to lead cross-functional efforts that deliver tangible business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap by translating customer insights, market dynamics, and competitive intelligence into prioritized initiatives that advance business goals.
  • Act as the voice of the customer, deeply understanding user needs, behaviors, and pain points through research, direct engagement, and data analysis.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle from discovery and validation to launch and iteration, ensuring solutions deliver value to both customers and the business.
  • Define and monitor key success metrics such as adoption, engagement, retention, and revenue, using data-driven insights to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate across UX, engineering, operations, and marketing to align priorities, drive execution, and clearly communicate strategy and trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and develop new features and initiatives that enhance customer value and differentiate the product in the market.
  • Make informed trade-offs by balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, and business priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Promote a customer-centric mindset across teams, ensuring decisions are grounded in evidence and insight.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of product management experience in a SaaS or software environment, with ownership of a product or feature set and accountability for its success.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams including UX, engineering, and operations to define, build, and launch high-impact features.
  • Strong experience with customer and user research, discovery techniques, and defining success metrics to guide product decisions and optimize outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify new opportunities, drive innovation, and deliver products that create measurable customer and business value.
