Product Manager, Alternative Data - Data Evaluations and Onboarding

Bloomberg’s Alternative Data team is hiring a Product Manager to lead dataset evaluation and onboarding for externally sourced data. This role builds the systems that assess alternative datasets against the product bar and drives cross-functional execution to move contracted data into production-ready capabilities at scale.

Role Summary
As Product Manager for Alternative Data within Data Evaluations and Onboarding, you will own end-to-end processes for evaluating external datasets, onboarding newly contracted data sources, defining success metrics, and coordinating execution across partner teams. You will also establish ongoing monitoring to support production reliability after launch.
Responsibilities
- Manage the evaluation pipeline end-to-end, including prioritization, timelines, and throughput across multiple concurrent active evaluations.
- Convert product strategy requirements into structured evaluation frameworks by defining criteria, methodology, and evaluation outputs against the product bar.
- Partner with the engineering evaluations team by setting analytical requirements and ensuring results are transparent and decision-ready for product leadership.
- Work directly with data providers during evaluations to resolve questions efficiently and obtain the information required to complete assessments.
- Improve evaluation workflows over time by standardizing, streamlining, and productizing processes to increase speed, rigor, and scalability.
- Own the end-to-end onboarding plan for newly contracted datasets, including delivery and technical requirements, dependency management, launch criteria, and timelines.
- Translate product and business requirements into implementation-ready data and operational specifications that align what the product needs with what engineering and providers must deliver.
- Define and manage ongoing data quality monitoring for onboarded datasets to ensure production reliability post-launch.
- Drive cross-functional execution with data scientists, engineers, data scouts, other product managers, and data vendors across the partnership lifecycle.
- Establish and track metrics for evaluation throughput, onboarding speed, and data quality using rigorous measurement practices.
- Continuously assess and improve the efficiency and scalability of both evaluation and onboarding processes.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of product experience, including meaningful time spent on alternative data products.
- Strong understanding of alternative data and how institutional investors use it.
- Proven experience building or managing structured analytical or operational processes, ideally within data evaluation, data quality, or data onboarding contexts.
- Hands-on experience working with data, including data quality frameworks, QA practices, and operational realities of delivering reliable data at scale.
- Ability to translate high-level product requirements into detailed operational and technical specifications.
- Experience collaborating directly with data engineers, data scientists, and cross-functional stakeholders in large organizations.
- Experience working directly with third-party data vendors or managing external data provider relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, producing clear, decision-ready outputs for product leadership and external partners.
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage concurrent evaluation and onboarding workstreams without losing sight of timelines or quality.
Compensation
- Salary range: USD 140,000 - 295,000 per year

The team’s mission is to make alternative data as essential to investment workflows as traditional fundamentals at global scale. Product managers in this group work at the intersection of data science, engineering, sales, and clients, responsible for differentiated data capabilities and for identifying, evaluating, and productizing external data quickly and at scale.
What You Can Expect
- Own dataset evaluation and onboarding, the critical process for determining whether a dataset meets product strategy and for turning contracted data into production-ready capabilities.
- Build and manage systems to enable efficient dataset evaluation, sound investment decisions, and scalable onboarding of new data sources.
- Work across the data partnership lifecycle, translating product requirements into evaluation frameworks, managing the evaluation pipeline, and ensuring newly contracted datasets reach production readiness.
- Drive visible impact on the quality and pace of Bloomberg’s alternative data product portfolio with cross-functional visibility across product leadership, engineering, data science, and the data vendor ecosystem.
Preferred to Have
- Product management experience building data, analytics, or research platforms.
- Experience operating in large organizations with multiple stakeholders.
