Product Manager, API & Maps
Job Description
Vaisala is building reliable weather and environmental technology, and this role helps shape how customers discover, integrate, and consume that value through its Weather API and mapping products. You will own the product strategy and roadmap for APIs, SDKs, and developer experience, while also guiding how AI changes service discovery and consumption. This Technical Product Manager position is based in Minneapolis, MN (hybrid) and offers a base salary range of $110,000 - $125,000, plus an annual STI bonus plan.
What you’ll do
- Own the strategy and roadmap for Weather API and mapping offerings, using customer research, market insight, and business priorities to set direction and investment decisions.
- Lead customer discovery by understanding workflows and business needs, and discussing capabilities, limitations, and integration approaches with developers and technical stakeholders.
- Shape AI strategy for API and Maps by identifying how AI changes customer needs and how services are consumed, then prioritizing opportunities by customer value, feasibility, reliability, and economics.
- Drive growth with data by independently analyzing usage and revenue performance, partnering with marketing and engineering to improve activation, paid conversion, retention, and expansion.
- Shape pricing and packaging with commercial partners, including usage-based pricing and monetization opportunities that support sustainable growth.
- Translate priorities into delivery by defining problems, requirements, and success measures, then partnering with engineering on scope and tradeoffs across new capabilities, performance, reliability, and compatibility.
- Improve developer experience through better onboarding, documentation, examples, and integration support to help customers move from evaluation to production.
- Manage the full product lifecycle, including launches, API version transitions, deprecations, and sunset decisions, with customer communication and migration plans for the installed base, and ongoing prioritization adjustments based on outcomes.
What you bring
- 3+ years as a product manager for technical products, with roadmap ownership and accountability for business results.
- Practical API fluency across REST, HTTP, JSON, authentication, errors, and rate limits, including the ability to test requests, inspect responses, and understand integration workflows and code examples.
- Strong data analysis skills using SQL or comparable tools to query and analyze usage and revenue data, then turn findings into decisions.
- Product-led growth understanding, including free tiers, trial-to-paid conversion, usage-based pricing, retention, and expansion.
- Familiarity with AI applications that consume APIs or data services, with the ability to translate these changes into product priorities.
- Customer discovery and technical communication, with strong written requirements skills, sound judgment, organization, and follow-through.
- Availability for collaboration with US-based engineering teams and customers during core US business hours.
- Relevant experience may include product management or another technical role with substantial product ownership.
