Product Owner

Carlsbad, CA $110k - $130k/yr Full time Posted 8h ago

Job Description

Fluidra is hiring a Product Owner (Connected Equipment) for a hybrid role based in Carlsbad, CA. In this position, you will own delivery of the connected equipment workstream, translating customer and business needs into a prioritized backlog and working closely with Product, Engineering, UX, and global teams to ship reliable IoT-enabled smart pool solutions, with a primary focus on North America.

What you will do

  • Own the connected equipment backlog, drive delivery, and help bring dependable smart pool solutions to market for customers across North America and beyond.
  • Convert customer and business needs into a clear, prioritized backlog, partnering with engineering to ship connected experiences that work reliably in real backyards.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog for the connected equipment workstream, coordinating with Product Owners across other workstreams to align prioritization and delivery in partnership with internal lab and field testing teams toward production launches.
  • Work with a global team of Product Managers and Engineers to ingest requirements and translate them into epics and user stories with clear acceptance criteria aligned to product goals and KPIs.
  • Partner with UX Design during ideation to support user-centered design, consistent terminology and functionality across equipment displays and apps, and early technical feasibility considerations.
  • Coordinate requirements across the mobile app, cloud/IoT platform, and embedded firmware teams, managing dependencies, release sequencing, and over-the-air (OTA) update timing so features work end to end on real equipment.
  • Shape connectivity models across automation-controlled equipment, standalone devices connecting directly, and local Bluetooth connectivity so users can connect based on their setup.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, Marketing, and leadership to communicate roadmaps and contribute to go-to-market strategy.
  • Write functional and non-functional requirements suitable for field environments, covering device states, alarms and alerts, connectivity loss, provisioning and onboarding, and error handling for edge cases.
  • Represent needs of both pool owners (Fluidra Pool app) and pool professionals (Fluidra Pro app), including remote monitoring, equipment diagnostics, and multi-site service workflows.
  • Collaborate with the technical team on data flows, APIs, system integrations, and interface mappings across devices, cloud services, and apps, supporting solution design, prototyping, and technical feasibility assessments.
  • Lead and participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, while managing delivery, dependencies, and technical risks with engineering leads.
  • Investigate production and field issues with engineering and customer support using logs, telemetry, and API tools to identify root causes, assess customer impact, and drive long-term fixes.
  • Deliver primarily for the North American market while contributing to global projects with counterparts in Colombia, Barcelona, India, and Australia, helping globalize development processes and ways of working.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate product work, including drafting and refining user stories, synthesizing customer feedback, analyzing data, and prototyping ideas while applying sound judgment around accuracy and data privacy.
  • Support delivery of AI-enabled product experiences by helping define use cases, test scenarios, and quality criteria for conversational and predictive features.
  • Learn the real-world applications and technology behind swimming pool equipment and related software services, ensuring the ecosystem feels coherent from requirements through delivery.

What you bring

  • Experience delivering connected/IoT products, mobile applications, or cloud-based platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of the SDLC, Agile methodologies, and the product life cycle.
  • Proven ability to write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can build and test against.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence.
