Job Description
American Airlines is seeking a Product Owner / Sr Product Owner for Technology Products to join the Airport Operations’ Workforce Technology product management team. The role supports the planning and delivery of internal business software that enhances workforce planning, staffing efficiency, on-time performance, and customer experience across domestic and international airports.
What You Will Do
- Lead development and delivery of internal business software by turning complex operational challenges into sustainable solutions that optimize workforce planning and staff management across domestic and international airports.
- Own and prioritize the backlog for a cross-functional team of technologists, focusing on data-driven and automated solutions and expanding machine learning capabilities using Agile practices.
- Represent airport workforce and the customer throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring their needs are reflected in each stage of development.
- Drive product outcomes through intelligent solutions that improve staffing efficiency, on-time performance, and customer experience.
- Create and own actionable roadmaps, combining creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving with analytical and visionary thinking to run experiments that demonstrate measurable impact.
- Contribute to co-creation of product vision and product strategy aligned to portfolio goals.
- Apply technical knowledge across A/B testing, product architecture, continuous deployment, DevOps practices, data models and analytics, querying languages, and automation and metrics tools to support owned products and services.
- Communicate regularly on OKRs, product roadmap, planned development, upcoming releases, and topics that require leadership attention.
- Coordinate with other product team members to manage dependencies and deliver increments of value.
- Conduct continuous product discovery and propose solutions aligned to product OKRs.
- Use data to define baselines, measure outcomes, share insights, and order backlog items.
- Perform competitive benchmarking, present new technologies or solutions, and identify unmet or underserved needs.
- Define and maintain a healthy backlog in line with organizational standards, presenting backlog items to squads and external team members.
- Seek input across product, process, and technology areas, balancing time-sensitive improvements required to maintain both technical and product health.
- Collaborate with internal partners including UX, Technology, Vendors, Risk, Compliance, and Security.
- Influence leaders, squads, and peers on product strategy, roadmap items, OKRs, and upcoming releases.
- Practice agility by discovering and delivering value continuously, while considering organizational constraints and budgetary implications.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 3 years of experience in Product Management or Delivery (for example: product analyst, user researcher, product owner), or 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Previous project management experience, with the ability to lead, organize, and prioritize projects.
- Ability to make effective decisions using data-driven analysis and strategic consideration.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills including leadership, collaboration, consensus-building, and cultural awareness.
- Proven ability to develop relationships and work effectively across groups.
- Ability to build consensus and achieve results through others.
- Proven collaboration success across a wide variety of projects.
- Relevant certifications in the Product Management or Product Delivery field.
- Strong knowledge or expertise of the product domain, including business model, constraints, regulations, and user experiences.
