Staff Product Manager, Developer Ecosystem

As a Staff Product Manager focused on the developer ecosystem, you will own the public developer surface end to end and shape how partners, customer developers, and AI agents integrate with BambooHR. This role blends product strategy, API platform standards, and ecosystem economics to deliver a roadmap that can be executed and measured.

Role Focus

You will guide the ecosystem roadmap for three key audiences: partners, our customers’ developers, and AI agents. Your work will cover public interfaces and the systems that make those interfaces discoverable, usable, and safe across APIs, SDKs, portals, documentation, and connectors.

Responsibilities

• Own the public developer surface end to end, including APIs, SDKs, a developer portal, the documentation bar, and connectors that enable BambooHR inside AI tools and customer marketplaces.
• Serve three customers on one roadmap: partners, our customers’ own developers, and AI agents.
• Decide what partner-sellable capabilities exist and support partner-sourced revenue as a company-level commitment.
• Own the integration-category roadmap sold by the partnerships organization, including build, co-build, or aggregate calls for each category.
• Ensure every committed category maps to something that exists, has a date, or is declined on the record.
• Co-own category-level revenue assumptions with the VP of Partnerships.
• Own the public API and SDK roadmap, including what gets exposed, the sequence, and the standards so partners can build without custom engineering support.
• Run the developer portal as a product, covering self-service registration, authentication, app management, packaged integration patterns, and documentation that minimizes ticket volume.
• Own BambooHR’s presence in AI assistant ecosystems and marketplaces, including connector strategy based on open protocols such as MCP, vendor submission and review relationships, and how AI agents perform against the platform safely.
• Carry launch readiness through third-party marketplace and app-review processes, treating external approval timelines as shipping commitments.
• Set an API-first bar with internal product teams and own the review path for new public capabilities so they ship with public-grade contracts.
• Collaborate with security and identity teams on the authorization model for third parties and agents.
• Guide product managers building partner integrations, define the co-build patterns they operate within, and arbitrate when partner demand conflicts with platform standards.
• Measure the ecosystem as a product using signals such as developer adoption, time to first integration, category coverage aligned to partner demand, and the revenue influenced by these outcomes.

Requirements

• Alignment with BambooHR values.
• 8+ years in product management on developer platforms, public APIs, or partner ecosystems, including experience where partner-sourced revenue was treated as a company-level commitment.
• Ability to make and defend build versus partner versus aggregate economics decisions.
• Capability to hold a roadmap accountable to a revenue plan shared with a commercial organization responsible for relationships and sellers.
• Technical depth in API design and authentication patterns.
• Ability to read specifications, challenge endpoint designs, and make principled decisions on versioning, scoping, and deprecation.
• Comfort working with open protocols that evolve quickly, building the company’s expertise over time.
• Treat developers as customers.
• Ownership mindset for documentation, onboarding, and support as product surfaces.
• Proven ability to set standards and drive alignment across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Credibility with senior engineers and architects to drive API and protocol decisions.
• Clear, direct communication with technical and commercial stakeholders, including executive review.
• Ability to identify the next constraint and move toward it without waiting for direction.
• Experience where AI is integrated into day-to-day work to prototype and pressure-test thinking.

Additional Factors Considered

• Experience with AI agent protocols and assistant ecosystems such as MCP, or shipping connectors into third-party marketplaces.
• Partner or marketplace ecosystem product management experience in a SaaS environment where partnerships contributed a material share of revenue.
• Familiarity with fine-grained authorization models for third parties and machine access.
• Experience mentoring product managers as a senior individual contributor.

Location and Hiring Notes

• Hybrid role based in Utah, with regular in-office days each week in Draper, UT.
