Job Description

BNY is building out its Design Accelerator within the Experience Design Practice, and is seeking a Vice President, Product Design to help partner across the bank. In this Pittsburgh, PA onsite role, you will frame ambiguous problems, map complex customer and operational experiences, and guide solutions from insight through design decisions and testing.

Working with product, engineering, research, business, and operations teams, you will shape clear design outcomes by combining research and observation with strong interaction and visual design. You will also help teams sustain design quality over time by reinforcing shared patterns and incorporating feedback into an actionable direction.

What you will do

  • Understand and frame problems: Learn how people work today through research, conversations, data, and observation. Identify underlying needs, constraints, and opportunities before settling on a solution.
  • Map complex experiences: Create journey maps, workflows, and other artifacts that show how people, processes, and systems connect. Help teams pinpoint where an experience breaks down and where design can make a difference.
  • Design and test solutions: Translate insights into concepts, interactions, and interfaces for complex digital products. Prototype at the level needed to learn, gain alignment, and support implementation.
  • Work through ambiguity: Make progress when requirements are evolving by asking good questions, identifying assumptions, and helping partners decide what to explore or build next.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Partner with product, engineering, research, business, and operations to balance user needs, business priorities, and technical realities.
  • Communicate your thinking: Explain the problem, design choices, and what you have learned in a way stakeholders can understand and act on.
  • Contribute to lasting design quality: Use and strengthen shared patterns when appropriate, incorporate feedback, and leave teams with a clear path to continue the work.

What you bring

  • Experience designing digital products or services with complex workflows, multiple user needs, or interconnected systems.
  • Curiosity about AI with a working understanding of where it can help in the design process, along with judgment to review its output and apply it responsibly.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills, including the judgment to select the right level of detail for each stage of work.
  • Ability to conduct or partner on discovery, synthesize what you learn, and turn it into a clear design direction.
  • Experience creating end-to-end journey maps and translating them into practical opportunities and solutions.
  • A collaborative working style and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Portfolio/examples required: Share how you approached problems, worked with others, made design decisions, and learned from outcomes.

Minimum experience: 5 years. Location: Pittsburgh, PA (onsite).
