Director of Product Operations, Indexes
Job Description
Morningstar Indexes is seeking a senior individual contributor to bring product operations rigor to pricing strategy, roadmap prioritization, and commercial alignment. This Director of Product Operations role also leads business intelligence for product and commercial stakeholders and drives practical AI use cases for efficiency and new monetization opportunities.
Role Overview
This position is responsible for establishing structure and governance across the Indexes product organization. You will own pricing strategy and governance, design a disciplined prioritization framework for the roadmap, and partner with Operations and Technology leadership to translate product priorities into an actionable delivery queue. The role also supports commercial growth across asset classes by aligning product delivery with commercial priorities, client demand, platform constraints, and technical debt.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate a structured prioritization framework for the product roadmap, ensuring investments map to commercial impact and strategic fit rather than ad hoc requests.
- Partner with Operations and Technology leadership as a peer to convert product priorities into a delivery queue, balancing commercial needs, client demand, platform constraints, and technical debt.
- Own business intelligence requirements for the Indexes product organization by defining core metrics and KPIs, specifying reporting needs, and partnering with Data, Finance, and Sales Operations to deliver dashboards used by Product Leadership and Commercial teams.
- Identify and evaluate new commercial opportunities enabled by AI, including new product delivery channels and AI-specific pricing or monetization models.
- Establish and run an annual pricing review process tied to product launches, renewals, and market changes, and track wins and losses associated with pricing decisions.
- Identify and drive practical AI use cases that improve efficiency across product and index workflows, from concept through implementation, and incorporate best practices across the Morningstar organization.
- Build and sustain business cases for major product investments, including revenue impact, margin impact, and payback period, and maintain accountability through post-launch.
- Coordinate across Product, Operations, Technology, Legal & Compliance, and Sales to confirm new products meet scalability, data integrity, and governance standards before entering the roadmap.
- Present findings, trade-offs, and recommendations to senior stakeholders, including Product Leadership and Commercial teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years in product management, product operations, or commercial strategy roles, ideally in indexing, asset management, or financial data.
- Proven experience building or running a pricing framework, including packaging, tiering, and discount governance.
- Experience designing and operating a prioritization process for a product roadmap.
- Experience partnering with operations and engineering/technology leadership as a peer in a matrix organization.
- Familiarity with the index lifecycle and the ETF ecosystem is strongly preferred.
- Experience with AI or data-driven initiatives, including practical use cases for efficiency and new monetization.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including comfort building and defending business cases with data.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills and comfort presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Comfort driving difficult trade-off decisions based on data.
- Bachelor's Degree.
