IT Product Owner - Payment Services
Job Description
Costco Wholesale is seeking an IT Product Owner - Payment Services for an onsite role in Seattle, WA. In this position, you will define and communicate MVPs and requirements for retail payment solutions, partner with agile delivery teams, and help continuously improve payment capabilities in alignment with business KPIs.
You will serve as a primary voice of the customer while working closely with the Payments Committee and the Treasury Payments team to refine priorities, validate product concepts, and guide execution from sprint planning through user acceptance testing and acceptance.
What you’ll do
- Define and communicate the minimum viable product (MVP) for assigned applications or products, including supporting release plans.
- Prioritize the sprint backlog during sprint planning using the sequencing and ranking of features in the product roadmap.
- Define and prioritize product requirements using market insights, customer feedback, and business objectives.
- Collaborate on a detailed product roadmap that outlines strategic direction for retail payment solutions with the Treasury Payments team and the Payments Committee.
- Work with engineering and design teams to translate product requirements into functional specifications, supporting timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Gather feedback, validate product concepts, and iterate on designs to improve user experience and product usability.
- Monitor and analyze product performance, conduct user testing, and use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in retail payments.
- Partner with Product Managers and Systems Architects to define new and/or enhanced product requirements and functionality.
- Consult with stakeholders, including the Payments Committee and Treasury Payments team, to align on product vision, roadmap, and requirements.
- Help ensure the teams’ work delivers the highest value relative to business needs and priority.
- Contribute to sprint planning and define the sprint plan based on priority within the overall product vision and roadmap.
- Refine product requirements based on input from sprint showcases and demos.
- Participate in sprint demos and showcases, including functional reviews with Product Managers and a Delivery Manager.
- Create user stories with detailed acceptance criteria written in the customers’ voice.
- Conduct formal review and acceptance of user stories implemented within a sprint.
- Drive user acceptance testing (UAT) activities with business and technology team support.
- Ensure completed stories meet acceptance criteria by reviewing test plans and automated testing output, and supporting manual testing when needed.
- Monitor and improve product health and prioritize resolution of issues and defects.
- Communicate with team members, stakeholders, and management at all levels.
What you bring
- 3+ years of current experience in the retail payments industry, including a track record of launching and managing payment products.
- Deep understanding of retail payment technologies, including mobile payments, contactless payments, digital, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and emerging payment trends.
- Strong analytical skills to gather and interpret data and make informed product decisions.
- Excellent project management skills with an emphasis on delivering within timelines and budgets.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Creative problem-solving and a customer-centric approach to product development.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience in fast-paced environments.
- 5+ years of experience creating documentation for communication with varied audiences.
- Deep understanding of business requirements elicitation for specific programs/projects.
- Proficient in business modeling, project scoping, and use case creation.
- Expertise using standard documentation and backlog management tools/utilities.
Compensation and location
- Location: Seattle, WA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 90,000 - 200,000 per year

Recommended
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field; MBA preferred
- Deadline oriented and capable of self-management
- 5+ years current experience working within a complex software development environment
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated attention to detail and time management/organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and within a close team environment
- Ability to listen to and understand business needs
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail
