Principal Product Manager, Rental Listings
Job Description
Zillow.com is looking for a Principal Product Manager to own the foundation of its rental inventory. This role focuses on how Zillow sources, ingests, enriches, and quality-scores rental listings, with the goal of enabling consumer-facing teams to offer the deepest, richest, and most complete rental selection on the internet.
As the listings strategy lead, you will define what “great” means for inventory quality and completeness, build the systems to reach it at scale, and partner with both internal engineering and external data and content partners.
Role focus
- Set strategy for what makes Zillow’s rental selection the deepest, richest, and most complete on the internet.
- Own how rental inventory is sourced, ingested, enriched, and scored for quality, so consumer-facing teams have the best possible data to work with.
- Ensure listing completeness and content quality, inventory coverage and growth, and the data and content partnerships that differentiate Zillow’s selection.
Key responsibilities
- Partner closely with feed engineering on data quality and platform reliability, and represent listings strategy to senior leadership and external partners.
- Define what “great” looks like and build the system that gets inventory there at scale.
- Raise depth and quality across all inventory, including pricing transparency, amenities, media richness, and completeness scores that influence renter trust and conversion.
- Grow breadth and depth of rental inventory across property types and sourcing channels.
- Source new content partnerships (media, floor plans, review content) and optimize existing feed and aggregator relationships by negotiating, onboarding, and tuning third-party data sources to achieve comprehensive, high-quality rental selection.
- Work with engineering to keep the listings pipeline stable, performant, and trustworthy, balancing committed roadmap work against urgent partner escalations and making disciplined tradeoffs when priorities conflict.
Requirements
- Treat listings as a product, not a data feed.
- Deep concern for listing completeness and quality, including understanding how upstream inventory decisions drive downstream renter experience and marketplace performance.
- Ability to bring clarity to ambiguity, influence without authority, and improve the team around you.
- 10+ years in a Product Management role with a focus on building consumer-facing technology products.
- Marketplace and/or e-commerce experience.
- Holistic thinking about supply-side strategy, including growth, quality, and the flywheel between inventory depth and consumer engagement.
- Comfort partnering with feed engineering on data pipelines, completeness scoring, and quality frameworks.
- Experience managing data and content partnerships at scale, including negotiating, onboarding, and optimizing third-party data sources.
- Credibility with external partners.
- Ability to hold a committed roadmap while absorbing unplanned work, using disciplined scope management and clear, honest tradeoff communication.
- Active use of AI tools across research, prototyping, and analysis, with critical thinking about where and how AI creates product value.
- Comfort working with AI/ML teams, evaluating build-vs-partner-vs-buy decisions, and considering tradeoffs in AI-powered products.
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and visual) to articulate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences and influence at all levels.
- Consistent record of shipping successful products at scale.
- Passion for real estate and commitment to Zillow Group’s mission and values.
