Job Description

Senior product manager responsible for strategy, lifecycle, and delivery of enterprise software supporting university operations, serving as the primary liaison between Enterprise IT and campus stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a portfolio of enterprise applications that support university business operations.
  • Define and maintain the product vision, strategy, roadmaps, and lifecycle plans aligned to institutional priorities.
  • Assess current applications to identify modernization opportunities and efficiency gains.
  • Rank enhancements based on business value, feasibility, risk, and resource constraints.
  • Oversee implementation, upgrades, maintenance, and retirement activities for applications.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with campus departments, executive leadership, and external vendors.
  • Serve as the primary contact for enterprise application strategy, functionality, and support.
  • Lead stakeholder meetings and portfolio governance to capture requirements and align HR, auxiliary, and healthcare needs.
  • Translate business needs into functional requirements and technology solutions that enhance processes and user experience.
  • Present project status and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
  • Represent business priorities within Agile teams by managing backlogs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure delivery success.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and technical teams to shape roadmaps.
  • Balance competing priorities across auxiliary and HR portfolios while delivering high-value solutions.
  • Lead multiple concurrent enterprise initiatives from planning through implementation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work across development, infrastructure, security, and vendors.
  • Work with campus departments and software vendors on implementations, upgrades, integrations, and ongoing improvements.
  • Facilitate technical and functional discussions that align business needs with product capabilities and standards.
  • Oversee data integrations and feeds supporting campus departments, ensuring reliable data flow between core systems like PeopleSoft and other applications.
  • Monitor scope, schedules, risks, dependencies, and resources to ensure delivery.
  • Analyze processes and recommend technology solutions to improve operational effectiveness and user satisfaction.
  • Promote best practices in product management, Agile delivery, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and suggest enhancements aligned with institutional objectives.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; equivalency policy allows substituting 1 year of higher education for 1 year of related work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of directly related work experience; for this role, a bachelor’s with 8 years of related experience or a master’s with 6 years of related experience is required.

Preferences

  • Experience as Product Manager or Product Owner for enterprise HR and auxiliary applications beyond finance, HR, or student systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development environments.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms such as Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, PeopleSoft, or similar tools.
  • Background managing enterprise data integrations and interfaces between core systems and auxiliary/HR apps.
  • Knowledge of authentication and identity management technologies, including SAML, CAS, or Shibboleth.
  • Collaboration with software developers, architects, UI/UX teams, infrastructure, and security groups.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and partnering with executive leadership, stakeholders, and data stewards across campus and healthcare portfolios.
  • Background in higher education or a similarly large, complex organization.
  • Experience supporting enterprise software applications or web-based systems.
  • Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into functional solutions.
  • Proven track record working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship management skills.
