Job Description
The Product Owner for the Personal Lines domain at Markel Service Inc. will steer backlog management and prioritize stakeholder needs within an agile environment, with a focus on API understanding and collaboration with internal and external partners to deliver valuable solutions. Based in Wauwatosa, WI with a hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Own and refine the product backlog and the user stories backlog to guide development efforts.
- Track development progress and plan product releases in alignment with business objectives.
- Engage with customers and end users to gather input on desired features and capabilities.
- Provide regular status reports to management and stakeholders on development activities.
- Evaluate customer feedback to identify high-value features and components for the product.
- Contribute as a member of the product services group, aligning with business objectives for the assigned line and supporting leadership in achieving them.
- Facilitate clear communication among business stakeholders, external partners, and the internal technical team.
- Develop a thorough understanding of Markel APIs and apply API analysis with external partners.
- Offer functional design details and clarifications on user stories to assist development teams in delivering quality products.
- Triaging defects that impede application functionality and prioritizing fixes.
- Assist with testing activities as needed to verify solutions meet requirements.
- Support the creation of technical documentation and training materials.
- Consult with stakeholders, providing expertise on current system features and capabilities to inform approaches toward business outcomes.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of the relationships among API contracts, specification documents, and sample request/response payloads, with the ability to interpret, analyze for consistency and accuracy, and produce the associated artifacts.
- Experience with insurance underwriting systems is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues with minimal guidance.
- Effective verbal communication capable of conveying technical matters to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work output.
- Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Minimum two years of product ownership or backlog management experience; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent experience.
