Job Description
The VP, Treasury – Payment Systems Product Owner role maximizes value delivered by Agile teams building core payments capabilities within Synchrony’s proprietary Payment Hub. The position drives roadmap decisions, partners across the enterprise, and supports secure, scalable, and customer-centric payments outcomes.
Location and Work Arrangement

The role includes an option to work from home near one of the company’s Hubs or come into one of its offices. You are required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training, and culture events. Field Sales and some Commercial team roles may have varied location requirements based on partner obligations or preferences.
Compensation
- Salary range: USD 110,000 to 185,000 per year
- Bonus: annual bonus based on individual and company performance
- Market adjustment: salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro, and Seattle

Role Summary
Maximizes the value delivered by Agile teams designing, building, and delivering core payments capabilities within Synchrony’s proprietary Payment Hub. Shapes roadmap decisions and partners across the enterprise to deliver scalable, secure, compliant, customer-centric payment solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to product vision and roadmap decisions for the Payment Hub using data, operational insights, and regulatory needs.
- Partner with Product Management to identify future capabilities, prioritize opportunities, and shape long-term platform strategy.
- Support roadmap development using cross-functional and systems-based thinking to manage complexity and dependencies.
- Develop, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog based on product vision, business value, milestones, stakeholder needs, and system dependencies.
- Align with Product Management and technology partners on feature sequencing, roadmap objectives, and PI goals.
- Own the product space from discovery through delivery, including requirements definition, prioritization, release readiness, and post-launch feedback.
- Lead Agile ceremonies and provide product context, decision-making support, and timely issue resolution.
- Write and prioritize user stories informed by stakeholder needs, functional and non-functional requirements, compliance, and operations.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve risks, blockers, and gaps in requirements or delivery readiness.
- Support testing activities by reviewing QA scripts, leading UAT, securing documentation, and coordinating stakeholder sign-off.
- Oversee release activities to ensure deployments are planned and executed smoothly, including transition to run and post-production validation.
- Monitor key performance indicators to evaluate product success and cross-team interaction efficiency.
- Lead and collaborate with scrum teams with an emphasis on accountability, innovation, execution excellence, and customer focus.
- Manage dependencies across internal teams, vendors, and external partners.
- Validate development progress, negotiate priorities, and secure stakeholder alignment.
- Ensure third-party integrations meet contractual, service-level, and control requirements.
- Create and maintain functional documentation for key features and capabilities.
- Bring strong knowledge of backend payment orchestration, operations, risk management, and the regulatory environment across ACH, card, wire, and instant payments.
- Lead systems-based product decisions for complex payment workflows, including orchestration, authorization, settlement, exception handling, and controls.
- Shape shared payment services to support consistency, compliance, and scalability across channels.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, or in lieu of degree (high school diploma/GED)
- Experience: 5+ years of product management, systems analyst, or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking
- Additional experience requirement: 8+ years of product management or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking (high school diploma/GED and 8+ years)
- Exceptional communication, systems thinking, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Desired Characteristics
- 3+ years of experience leading development of payment products and services, preferably connected to a centralized payments function or hub
- Knowledge of micro-services architecture and programming/scripting languages
- SAS/SQL experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of ACH, card payments, wire transfers, RTP, and payment hub architectures, including associated file formats or rules (for example, NACHA, ISO20022, SWIFT)
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (AML, KYC, PCI-DSS, OCC, and CFPB regulations)
- Proactive, with a high degree of self-initiation
- Demonstrated quality or process improvement experience
- Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize disparate and/or complex requirements into cohesive solutions within a virtual environment
