Job Description

Workday is hiring a Principal Product Manager for Workday Agent Factory to lead an autonomous AI agent end-to-end, from opportunity identification through GA and continued scaling at enterprise scale. The position is hands-on, with ownership across agent architecture, evaluation, and enterprise customer workflows in regulated environments such as finance and HCM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own an AI agent end-to-end, progressing from identifying the opportunity through GA launch and beyond
  • Prototype and validate agent concepts rapidly, using real customer workflows and data to assess viability before committing engineering resources
  • Design production-quality agent systems in partnership with engineering, emphasizing reliability, auditability, and trust within regulated domains
  • Conduct customer discovery and run Early Adopter programs to validate value, generate references, and reduce risk at each stage
  • Find the highest-ROI agent opportunities in finance and HCM, build support using data, and advocate for them internally
  • Define measurable value outcomes and evaluation frameworks to demonstrate agent impact quantitatively
  • Work closely with domain PMs to understand workflows and constraints, and to identify where autonomous agents deliver step-function value versus incremental improvements
  • Communicate agent vision and progress to executives, customers, field teams, and implementers, translating technical capability into business value

Required Qualifications

  • 11+ years of product management experience
  • 5+ years in SaaS or B2B enterprise software
  • Direct experience building and shipping external, revenue-generating AI forward products and/or agent systems to production, including agents that reason, plan, and take autonomous action
  • Deep technical acumen to evaluate agent architectures, debug failure modes, and make informed design tradeoffs with engineering
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills across engineering, customers, and executive stakeholders
  • Experience in regulated or complex domains (finance, HCM, healthcare, legal) where trust, compliance, and auditability are required
  • A track record of 0-to-1 product development, taking ideas to revenue rather than maintaining existing products
  • Bias for action and comfort making high-stakes decisions with incomplete information, then iterating from there
  • Experience managing Early Adopter or beta programs with enterprise customers
  • Ability to operate across multiple functions, influence senior executives, and drive alignment without formal authority
  • Hands-on mindset, including building agent systems through prototyping, side projects, or experimentation
  • Strong opinions on agent evaluation, reliability, and human-in-the-loop design grounded in practical experience
  • Ability to learn complex customer domains quickly and distinguish step-function value from potential risk
  • Motivation to build new product lines from scratch, not optimize existing ones
  • Organizational ability to track many moving parts across customers, engineering, and stakeholders while maintaining velocity

About the Team

Workday Agent Factory builds autonomous AI agents that become standalone product lines, rather than incremental AI features layered into existing workflows. The team operates as a 0-to-1 group inside Workday: identifying high-conviction opportunities in complex, regulated domains like finance and HCM, then building production-grade agents that can become revenue lines. PMs prototype hands-on, ship quickly, and navigate enterprise realities including compliance, auditability, and deeply embedded business processes.

About the Role

This Principal Product Manager role is designed for candidates who have already shipped production AI agent systems and want to build again at enterprise scale. The role includes owning an agent from concept through GA, including scoping the opportunity, prototyping solutions, running Early Adopter programs, and scaling to Workday’s global customer base. The position is not limited to strategy decks; daily work involves agent architectures, evaluation frameworks, and customer workflows, alongside prioritization across a fast-moving portfolio. Success requires scrappiness to prototype quickly, technical depth to design reliable agent systems, and domain judgment to solve real problems in highly regulated and complex environments.
