Job Description
Join AMD’s Datacenter Platform Engineering Group as a Product Development Engineer, Product Operations. This onsite role focuses on the development and manufacturing launch of datacenter server and rack systems, coordinating with cross functional teams to meet design standards, quality targets, and production timelines. You will contribute from concept through ramp, helping bring high performance hardware to market. This position supports onsite work in Secaucus, NJ, with additional opportunity in Austin, TX.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering Design, Materials, Rack/Server Systems Program Management, and more to synchronize design, materials planning, manufacturing, and quality throughout the product lifecycle.
- Assess design specifications, CAD drawings, and documentation to ensure alignment with design criteria, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities; lead Design for Manufacturability reviews to optimize for efficient production and quality.
- Develop and maintain realistic project schedules and readiness timelines to support on time new product introductions; communicate status to customer program management and internal stakeholders.
- Lead New Product Introduction efforts by organizing cross functional problem solving with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality Engineering teams; proactively resolve design or production issues for a smooth launch and ramp.
- Organize regular technical design reviews to deepen understanding, coordinate design changes, and provide guidance to ensure feasibility and alignment with manufacturing processes.
- Oversee prototype builds and First Article Inspections for new products; document FAI requirements, analyze results, and implement improvements to validate design and manufacturability.
- Coordinate engineering rework and change orders during the transition to volume production; manage ECO processes to incorporate design updates with minimal schedule impact.
- Validate and approve production assembly instructions, labeling, and work instructions to ensure clarity and accuracy for manufacturing teams; ensure processes are documented and optimized for quality and efficiency.
- Work with quality and production teams to ensure final products meet customer specifications and standards, supporting a smooth ramp into high volume production.
Requirements
- Hands on experience guiding products from concept through development and production.
- Knowledge of physical design methodologies for hardware or systems.
- Familiarity with server architectures or rack level hardware systems and their components.
- Ability to conduct Design for Manufacturability reviews and optimize designs for efficient manufacturing.
- Experience managing Engineering Change Order processes and implementing design updates in a production environment.
- Understanding of printed circuit board assembly manufacturing processes and best practices.
- Strong documentation skills, including creating and maintaining engineering documentation and Bills of Materials.
- Proven ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications for design accuracy and manufacturability.
- Hands on experience in a manufacturing or factory setting, especially in a fast paced NPI environment, with a track record of launching new hardware products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to lead meetings, coordinate across multiple teams, and drive projects to timely completion.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience in product development engineering or a related hardware engineering role, including work with design and manufacturing processes for complex hardware (datacenter servers or similar).
