Job Description

Shape product outcomes for athenahealth by leading front-end and performance initiatives for athenaClinicals.

Responsibilities

  • Define product vision, business cases, and the product roadmap.
  • Act as Product Owner for assigned scrum teams by defining epics and user stories, prioritizing the backlog, and making trade-offs across customer value, scope, timing, and technical constraints.
  • Partner with the team to define the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including problem definition, requirements, user experience, objectives and key results, delivery, and measurement of customer and business outcomes.
  • Establish and monitor performance measures to provide visibility into product outcomes, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Use inputs including market conditions, customer needs, product dependencies, and business value to guide prioritization and product investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver new features using shared front-end software, design libraries, and observability tools.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in physician and care team user experience and web application development best practices.
  • Lead AI-native product development using AI across discovery and design, development, testing, and post-release iteration.
  • Share AI learnings, frameworks, and reusable patterns to expand AI adoption across the broader R&D organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5–10 years of experience in product management, technical product management, business analysis, or software delivery in an agile environment.
  • Experience in healthcare or healthcare technology.
  • Experience with web application technologies including React and GraphQL, plus observability tools including Chrome DevTools and Datadog.
  • Experience working with Agile or Scrum product development teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems using qualitative and quantitative evidence to develop scalable product solutions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for customers, senior leaders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience using AI tools (examples: Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, Figma Make) to accelerate work such as drafting requirements, synthesizing feedback, creating specifications or prototypes, or analyzing data with appropriate human review.
  • Ability to travel up to 10–15% annually for client site visits, conferences, and trainings.

  • Based in Boston, MA (hybrid); reports to the Product Management Director within athenaClinicals.

About the Team

  • The Clinical Foundations team builds shared capabilities that support athenahealth’s electronic health record products.
  • Focus areas include application usability and performance, with a goal of a faster, more reliable athenaOne for every physician and care team.
  • Partners with Product, Engineering, UX, Cloud Engineering and Operations, and Client Technology to understand client needs and deliver user experiences.

Compensation

  • USD 121,000 - 207,000 per year
