Job Description
TEGNA Inc. is looking for a Product Manager, Engagement to own the mobile product roadmap with a focus on driving engagement while maintaining platform integrity. In this role, you will translate business goals into user-centered outcomes, lead cross-functional delivery, and use data and research to continuously improve the customer experience.
What you’ll do
- Lead high functioning lean full-stack product teams across product, design, copy, engineering, and QA to deliver best-in-class, mobile-centric experiences.
- Develop and maintain a robust, transparent product backlog.
- Create epics and user stories aligned to Product strategy and vision.
- Partner with Product Leadership to plan and execute roadmap goals by facilitating agile scrum ceremonies, removing obstacles, and delivering quality products on time and on budget.
- Own and improve product processes that drive value, quality, and team velocity.
- Document and communicate risks or impediments that hinder team progress.
- Prioritize the product backlog by balancing content priorities, user experience, platform capabilities, and delivery timelines, keeping work focused on the most valuable features.
- Build rapid prototypes and interactive mockups to validate product concepts before full development.
- Use AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development and explore design alternatives.
- Translate design concepts into working prototypes using low-code/no-code tools or AI-powered code generation.
- Review and iterate on AI-generated code with engineering teams to support quality, maintainability, and alignment to the product vision.
- Translate business needs, customer feedback, and market trends into clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain strong backlog health, emphasizing actionable user stories and minimal to no carryover.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and QA during sprint cycles to ensure smooth delivery, scope clarity, and fast decision-making.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between product teams and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of priorities, expectations, and progress.
- Champion the voice of the customer across product decisions.
- Leverage qualitative research, analytics, and engagement signals/data to inform product decisions.
- Contribute to product strategy and roadmapping with Product Leadership.
- Analyze product performance, incorporate user feedback, and iterate features to improve user experience and business outcomes.
- Lead core team and stakeholder communications, including dependencies, launches, setbacks, learnings, and tradeoff decisions.
- Use team velocity and capacity planning to improve product delivery over time.
What you’ll need
- Practical knowledge of user guides/surveys, VOC (voice of consumer), and A/B tests/experiments.
- Experience delivering iOS and/or Android applications at scale.
- Familiarity with app store submission and release criteria, including metadata and screenshot requirements.
- Comfort working in fast-paced environments and collaborating across consumer domains and business partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication with active listening skills.
- Experience supporting and facilitating healthy team dynamics.
- Professional approach that reflects TEGNA values.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with a proactive mindset.
- Ability to negotiate and ability to say “No” when appropriate.
- Attention to detail, ability to multitask, and ability to work under pressure.
- Organized, pragmatic, and focused on delivering real outcomes, not just features.
- Bias for action and comfort making decisions with limited information.
- Ability to turn complexity into clarity for users and development teams.
- Understanding of agile principles and preference for iterative work guided by data and feedback.
- User-obsessed approach to continuously improving customer experience.
