Product Owner, Commerce Strategy & Platforms for Adobe Commerce (Magento)
Job Description
The American Society of Clinical Oncology is seeking a Product Owner to lead the Commerce Strategy and Platforms for its Adobe Commerce (Magento) environment. This role centers on the customer, driving a roadmap to deliver a scalable, native-first e-commerce experience for B2C members, B2B partners, and donors. Located in Alexandria, VA with remote work options, the position offers a salary range of USD 142,500 to 165,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the voice of the customer, prioritizing backlog epics, features, and stories in line with ASCO’s strategic and PI objectives, while favoring native configurations and standard integrations over custom code where feasible.
- Partner with business analysts to co-author high-quality epics, features, and stories, refining requirements and acceptance criteria with architects and engineering leads.
- Maintain data integrity across all work items by ensuring complete metadata, tags, and mapping to enable real-time sprint and enterprise roadmap reporting.
- Monitor product value and quality for customers, proactively championing improvements and staying current with Magento security patches, core updates, and performance benchmarks.
- Collaborate with other product owners and engineering leads to understand and prioritize technical debt, coordinating dependent tasks across squads.
- Ensure sprint goals are met by resolving blockers and managing dependencies and challenges.
- Actively participate in squad ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint review, sprint retrospective) and portfolio-level events (quarterly planning, enterprise retrospectives, and system demos).
- Work with portfolio leaders and stakeholders to define ambitious Program Increment objectives and key results, establishing baseline metrics to track business value throughout the lifecycle.
- Prepare for quarterly planning with the Portfolio Leader, drafting objectives, preparing decks, facilitating sessions, and coordinating planning boards and Inspect and Adapt ceremonies.
- Collect and maintain the product backlog for quarterly Product Increment Planning, ensuring work within the Magento ecosystem is well defined with estimated story points.
- Contribute to the portfolio roadmap by refining ideas in lean business case format within the Jira product discovery board.
- Support release planning and coordination with relevant teams, including marketing, to ensure successful launches and iterations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in product ownership or digital product management.
- 3+ years managing complex e-commerce ecosystems with a deep understanding of Adobe Commerce (Magento), applying a native-first approach that prioritizes core configurations and standard integrations over custom code.
- Proven experience managing complex checkout flows and multiple payment processor configurations.
- Success in developing and executing multi-quarter roadmaps, including feature prioritization, cross-squad dependency mapping, and timeline management.
- Experience with SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies.
- Experience leading squad ceremonies and partnering with portfolio leaders to define PI objectives is a plus.
- Strong ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and facilitate alignment with senior stakeholders.
- High proficiency with Jira, Jira Product Discovery, and Confluence for backlog integrity, metadata tagging, and real-time roadmap reporting.
