BMC Software is building agentic AI experiences that are responsible, valuable, and trustworthy for enterprise customers. This hybrid role in New York, NY focuses on shaping end-to-end UX research and experience strategy for agentic systems, connecting what AI can do with what users need to understand, control, and act with confidence.
In this position, you will lead the experience vision and research approach for BMC’s agentic AI ecosystem. You will partner closely across product, AI, engineering, and design to turn complex capabilities and failure modes into clear, human-centered workflows for single-agent and multi-agent use cases.
Responsibilities
- Define the end-to-end cross-product experience strategy for agentic AI systems, covering intent capture, planning, recommendations, tool use, execution, status communication, exception handling, and outcomes.
- Develop human-agent interaction patterns that help users understand autonomy, system reasoning, confidence, permissions, and consequences without creating cognitive overload.
- Design experiences for single-agent and multi-agent workflows across conversational, visual, and workflow-based interfaces.
- Specify human-in-the-loop controls for high-impact actions, including approvals, escalation paths, reversibility, auditability, and recovery mechanisms.
- Translate AI capabilities, constraints, and failure modes into intuitive enterprise experiences that support informed decision-making and trust.
- Shape experience vision, principles, journeys, and the interaction model for BMC’s agentic AI ecosystem.
- Lead discovery with customers, users, product teams, and domain experts to identify high-value use cases and unmet needs.
- Prototype and test AI workflows, agent behaviors, trust cues, and interaction patterns using iterative research and usability evaluation.
- Define experience success measures for task completion, comprehension, trust, adoption, efficiency, and responsible use.
- Use qualitative and quantitative evidence to influence product direction and prioritize improvements.
- Partner with product managers, AI engineers, architects, researchers, product designers, content designers, and domain specialists from concept through production.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align on use cases, system capabilities, user needs, risks, and experience outcomes.
- Establish reusable agentic UX patterns, standards, and guidance that scale across products while maintaining consistency and accessibility.
- Provide design direction, critique, and mentorship to raise craft quality and strengthen AI experience design practices across the organization.
- Communicate experience strategy, design rationale, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior leaders and technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, UX Design, Cognitive Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of product or UX design experience in complex enterprise products, IT systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, data, or other highly technical environments.
- A strong portfolio showing systems thinking, end-to-end experience design, interaction design depth, and measurable product impact.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives.
- Proven experience designing AI-powered, generative AI, or agentic experience strategies integrated into real products or enterprise workflows, beyond prototypes or conceptual work.
- Understanding of MCP, agent-to-agent protocols, AI observability, evaluation, governance, and enterprise security considerations.
- Practical understanding of agentic AI frameworks and concepts, including agents, tools, memory, context, planning, reasoning, orchestration, multi-agent collaboration, RAG, and human oversight.
- Experience mapping AI workflows and ecosystems across users, agents, enterprise applications, APIs, data, permissions, policies, and operational constraints.
- Ability to design for probabilistic behavior, uncertainty, latency, failure, explainability, safety, trust, and responsible AI.
- Expertise in Figma and “vibe design,” with the ability to make complex interactions tangible for users and engineering teams.
- Strong user research, facilitation, storytelling, and executive communication skills.
